Do you male students engage with this activity? Or are they "turned off" by the Barbie theme? Do any of the male students come over to the station?

52:21
Have you had male instructors take this out and be successful?

52:58
When there was brainstorming for better women outreach, what other ideas were brought up? If so, were any tested?

54:41
How relatively costly was this setup?

57:31
for engaging your students to help with these outreach events, I have found that our students seemed so wrapped up with working full tie and other life issues, that they don't help with these types of events unless it is tied into their grade. But maybe that is a difference between colleges, MATC being a technical college. Thoughts?

I'll do it and then share some rhubarb with Deb

01:00:47
Hi Ted- Our school just had a big event this year at the Dover Air Show. I asked for (paid) helpers. The college offered $$ since it was all weekend. And the only students that volunteered were the older students. I really thought it would only be the young students who were interested in the $$. The older students were more interested in giving back and sharing their experiences in the field/at the college.

01:02:22
How many women do you have in your program?

01:04:15
@Jennifer Clemons: we've found the same... younger students aren't interested in working for $$ and the older students who do are already over-extended (multiple jobs, family)

01:06:02
@jason was glad I sent the invite out to everyone. I didn't think it was enough money for the older students to give up their whole weekend. But they did, and the worked both Saturday and Sunday. I didn't hurt that it was a major air show, so it was pretty cool. But they were great. No one under 30 helped! Very pleasantly surprising!

01:12:52
How about polly pocket instead of Barbie? A smaller footprint?

01:17:27
BAS is a white collar job, not blue collar

01:20:48
have a great weekend everyone... thank you Deb for exploring these great outreach strategies :-)

01:20:48
This was fantastic Deb!
